In fall 2012 after picking up the keys to our new home (circa 1963) I spotted a bald eagle across the street standing in a neighbor’s yard. I sat in my car gaping at the adult bald eagle standing still as if to say, ‘Take the picture already!’ I had never seen a bald eagle outside of Bush Gardens amusement park. A few weeks after we moved in a nor-easter storm passed through bringing high tides and waves of various birds. We thought it must be a one-time event, but to our delight, we discovered migrating birds pass through this area each winter. In the springtime and summer, we discovered a variety of songbirds and garden critters. It’s amazing watching the abundance of wildlife over the years from brown pelicans to bald eagles, minks, and red foxes, giant sting rays to the occasional summer dolphins. It is a joy sharing this hidden river wildlife.
