A large tree limb gave us a fright falling on the driveway, luckily no one was outside. Note to self, keep one chainsaw in the garage. I’m a tree hugger, but I do like keeping people safe too so I located this site for certified arborists: Find an Arborist and selected Arbor Tree Care Inc. Together we identified damaged limbs, habitats to protect, and a dead pine tree threatening our neighbors’ garages. A few days later several trucks, one massive crane truck, and the nicest crew were onsite. The owner, Gary a Certified Arborist, personally climbed our favorite live oak which is home to several garden birds. They meticulously looked for signs of rot and potential threats resulting in trimming, and removal of branches. When done the yard was clear of everything from the branches they worked to all the pine straw and pine cones! It’s taken a few days, but the wildlife is reappearing flying from tree to tree and scurrying around the wooded lot. There’s always a balance between habitats and keeping everyone safe.
This last week we decided to treat our raccoons with our porch pumpkins from Halloween and Thanksgiving (pumpkins were in their natural state, uncarved, unpainted, no stickers, etc). I took out a small axe and opened each outside our habitat’s favorite tree. We watched as they skirted around, and walked over them but no one was eating the pumpkins! I have been keeping watch since a rotten pumpkin can make animals sick. This week on the camera, not one but three raccoons, each one sitting inside their claimed breakfast bowl.
